Grandma's “Buttumak?"

Where Our Name
Comes From

“Buttumak” is a Korean word for the traditional kitchen hearth —
the warm, lived-in space where rice was cooked, soup simmered, and the family naturally gathered.

It represents more than just a place to cook; it is a symbol of comfort, care, and everyday togetherness.

At Grandma’s Buttumak, this word captures the heart of our brand:
simple but heartfelt meals, served with the warmth of a grandmother’s home-style cooking.

Halmeoni (Grandma)

In Korea, “Halmeoni” means more than just a grandmother. She represents warmth, sincerity, care, and the comforting spirit of home-cooked meals. For many Koreans, “Grandma’s table” symbolizes a meal that is warm, wholesome, and lovingly prepared.

Buttumak (Traditional Stove)

A “Buttumak” is the traditional cooking hearth once found in Korean homes— the place where rice, soup, stews, and side dishes were prepared every day. It embodies the warmth of the family kitchen and reflects the heart of Korean home-meal culture.

“Grandma’s warmth,

served on every table.”

At Grandma’s Buttumak, we are inspired by the warmth and care of the meals our grandmothers prepared. We created a Korean “Baekban” restaurant brand so that anyone, anywhere, can enjoy a comforting, home-style meal.

Baekban is a traditional Korean set meal consisting of one main dish served with a variety of side dishes. Warm rice, soup, and multiple banchan (side dishes) come together to form a wholesome meal enjoyed by people of all ages.

This style of dining is rooted in the traditional concept of “Hansang (韓床)” — a full Korean table where rice, soup, a main dish, and many side dishes are served at once.

It reflects the Korean way of expressing care and hospitality through food. Grandma’s Buttumak reinterprets this Baekban and Hansang culture for the modern era. We offer warm, sincere meals at an accessible price, while preserving the comforting spirit of a neighborhood Korean kitchen.

For us, food is more than a meal. It is a way to comfort someone’s day and share a moment of warmth. This sincerity has resonated with many, and Grandma’s Buttumak is now expanding from Korea to tables around the world.
